Well,
as promised, here is the first post on future elections that I will tell you
about in this blog. I am going to post a date regarding the 2019 elections. You
might not know that there are even things to vote for this year. I’m largely
only going to mention the three states that have governor races this year. It
is up to you to keep track of any other election that might be going on this
year if you aren’t part of these three states.
Which
states are electing governors? Kentucky, Mississippi, and Louisiana are. I will
do a more in depth post about Kentucky in the next post. I won’t do the other
two states as in depth. Note that the primary for Kentucky and Mississippi have
both already happened. Both Kentucky and Mississippi have Republican governors.
The governor of Mississippi is term limited. Louisiana has a Democratic
governor. Now let’s take a look as to what is happening in each state.
Kentucky:
Republican incumbent Matt Bevin is up against Democratic Andy Beshear. I am
close enough to this state to see some ads for the election, but have only seen
two thus far. I do not know what to make of the candidates.
Mississippi:
Jim Hood won the primary on the Democratic side. A runoff between Tate Reeves
and Bill Waller Jr. on the Republican side will take place on August 27th
of this year. I wouldn’t know who to pick on the Republican side, but wouldn’t
go with either of them when it comes time for the general election anyways.
Louisiana:
John Bel Edwards is a Democrat incumbent running for reelection. He is not the
only Democrat in the race. There are also a lot of Republicans in the race as
well. The primary voting system is kind of weird and you won’t see parties
mentioned on the ballot. If someone gets enough votes in the first round, there
won’t be a second round. It is possible that there will be two candidates from
the same party in the runoff if there is one. The main voting is on October 12th
with a possible runoff on November 16th. Note that both dates are
Saturdays.
Before
I end this post, it is worth noting that since there isn’t as much to talk
about in an off year election like 2019, posts that I’ll mention before the
events have happened might cover both of the primaries for president. I’ll
start with the Democratic one since they are the challengers in this race and
go into the Republican one next. I will do this on and off until I am able to
get to the main election for president once each party’s nominee is decided.
Now to end this post, I will get to the schedule of the elections this year.
