While I’ve talked some about this already, I have to get to the results of the gubernatorial races from last year covering all of them and what I haven’t covered already. Sorry in advance if any of this is something that you’ve already seen before.
No
incumbent governor lost reelection and only one seat flipped out of the states
up for election this cycle. Two states did not have their incumbent governors
in the race. Utah’s Republican governor retired and was replaced by another
Republican. Montana’s Democratic governor was term limited and his seat was
replaced by a Republican. It was the only net gain of a Republican seat from a
Democrat over the last set of gubernatorial races from 2017-2020 and one of
only two races where a Republican replaced a governor of a different party
during the same time frame in question.
Since
coronavirus made all governor races fair game to me, I had to think about which
races I cared about and who all that I feel should stay or go. While I could
have prevented Spencer Cox from replacing Gary Herbert in Montana, I didn’t
care about that state’s race since there was not an incumbent in it. The same
can be said about Greg Gianforte in Utah replacing Steve Bullock. Those two
races were non factors for me despite being important.
There
were two Republicans up that I didn’t hate by any means. They are Chris Sununu
of New Hampshire and Phil Scott of Vermont. I felt that they were doing good
jobs and I didn’t want them out of office as a result. They both won
reelection. Plus, it makes sense to support Chris since he wanted the
presidential transition to happen.

Mike Dewine of Ohio, Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas, Charlie Baker of
Massachusetts, Chris Sununu of New Hampshire, and senator Susan Collins of
Maine)
There
are also all of the Democratic governors that I wanted to stay around. They are
John Carney of Delaware, Roy Cooper of North Carolina, and Jay Inslee of
Washington state. All of them won reelection, which is what I wanted.
The
rest of the governors up in 2020 were people that I wanted out of office at one
point. But this was not the case with Eric Holcomb of Indiana. I wanted him out
since he endorsed Bruce Rauner, the ineffective now former governor of my
state. But then he joined an alliance with my state’s new governor and other
governors that are Democratic as well. He has also done a good job or at least
better job than most other Republican governors. He did a mask mandate that
could have hurt his chances. While a third party candidate in that race did
well, he still did a very good job getting votes. I’ll only countdown his time
when he’ll be leaving office if he fails me in the future as he can’t run for a
third term as governor of that state.
There
was another governor that I had mixed feelings about. That was Jim Justice of
West Virginia. I felt that he’s a traitor for betraying the Democratic Party by
becoming a Republican. Thus, I wanted him out of office. But I had to concede
that either he had a good response to this pandemic or he at least didn’t fail
at it. With his state far better off than most, I don’t think that I will mind
him staying around.
Meanwhile,
a governor was doing quite terribly at handling the pandemic and that man is
Doug Burgum of North Dakota. His lack of mask mandate and allowing super
spreader events like the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has lead to his state having
among the highest percentage of deaths from the pandemic with around 1 in 300
North Dakotas dead of coronavirus. Despite this, he still won reelection from
what could very well be a state in denial.
At
one point, I wasn’t wanted to target Mike Parson of Missouri since it was his
predecessor who was quite a horrible person and also joined the ad that Eric
Holcomb did. But he has done quite terrible and handling the response. One of
the things that he said is covered in this.
Even
getting the coronavirus himself has not lead Mike to handle it seriously. St.
Louis has done better ways of handling the pandemic that you just don’t see in
the rest of the state. He even lied a lot in the ads against his opponent.
Honestly,
I don’t like Missouri as a result and you will even see or, I should say, not
see this on my facebook account. I removed all of the featured photos that I
had from Missouri from my page with those from other states. I plan to change
my twitter photo to as that is from Missouri. I will not be sharing any photo
albums from the state of Missouri (barring it having a dead person in it) and
will avoid trying to do any photos from that state at all outside of maybe cover
photos with me in a mask. There are other states that I’m trying to avoid now
that will be much easier to that I don’t think that I’ve been to some of them. But
talking about an avoidance preference (which is different than an outright
boycott or cancelling) is worth covering in a different blog post on this or a
different political blog in the future.
Well,
there’s not much to talk about in this closing as I end the post around here. There
is a lot for me to cover in this blog and I will be scaling this blog back to
just once a month provided that I’m not blogging about the show which would
supersede all of these political posts. I plan to talk some about the 2021 elections
and will talk about the 2022 ones as well. But now this post is out of the way
even with it being as late as it is.
