Politics: The Lincoln Project

With me wanting to do a quick election based post, but not on an election, I figured that I might as well cover one of the strangest and most hopeful parts of the 2020 election for president that did not stop fighting there. It is strange because it is a group of Republicans that did not want to have Trump as president anymore. Maybe they sat out the primary due to how it was already rigged in favor against Trump. But they did not want the insurrectionist to stay in office anymore and they got their wish. 

They were known for doing a lot of ads and I might as well share some of them here. I will get more into their potential problems in this post as well since it is worth covering all of it. I do not remember what this one was about, but did feel that it was worth sharing at one point.

Another one that they covered was on 9/11 and how insensitive Trump was in relation to that. He bragged on the news that he now had the tallest building in New York City now. What kind of fucking asshole does that? You talk about coming in first only because the winner died, but do not care much else about other things going on in the world. This was a mass casualty event and you were talking about how you benefited from it?

Another ad that they did was on the main choice of the election at hand. They became known for asking the question: America or Trump? Trump is not America and you wouldn’t know it from how his supporters feel about him. This ad is called The Choice.

Here’s one that they did called Our Fight. While I can’t remember much about these ads from when I saved them, then you should know that they are still relevant in my mind or at least what I want to cover still today.

The next one that they did was called Focus Group. It was great to see their take on a whole lot of the issues of today which is why they are still at it even though the insurrectionist is now out of office. His powers could cause issues still and not just for his base.

Now Trump likes to think of himself as a smart person. In the ad, I’m Smart, it shows just how dumb he actually is. Can you think of that many really truly smart things Trump has actually said or done over time?

Of course, now that Trump is out of office, they still have to get rid of the poodles that were after him as well. When Ted Cruz flew out of the country and abandoned his state during a crisis only to break coronavirus protocols to return, a funny ad was made about it. Here it is, an ad called Mexican vacation that is only about 2 minutes long.

Now that we’ve gotten through some of the good things about The Lincoln Project, it is time to get to the bad ones. There have been people as part of the group that left after scandals that they had came to light. One could wonder if this could ruin The Lincoln Project. One could also wonder if this is just a way of people trying to cancel it. The way that I see it, a few bad apples don’t spoil the whole bunch so let’s hope that the issue is solved now and it was, just that, a few bad apples. Otherwise, it would be better if this project faded out gracefully. 

There’s not much else to say about this topic or any others. Note that you will be seeing a whole lot of this blog this month and then I’ll have to scale back when you see it. I do want to cover some of what you haven’t already seen that I feel that you need to. And there are two groups that I want to cover in detail. One would be from before the election and the other in relation to the vote that took place on the day of the storming of the capital. Let’s hope that I can do all of that and I will tell you when this blog will go back to just one day of the month again.

Politics: Who I Donated For in 2020 and Why

As I seek to write all of the posts that I want to do for all of my blogs (and brace yourself for any potential problems with updates should a vaccine make me sick enough to not do blogs that are not scheduled in advance as the first dose went relatively well, but it is the second one that could cause issues), there are some posts that I’ll want to cover for this blog that are more time sensitive than the others. I’m going to talk about who I donated to in the 2020 election cycle. I could talk some more about the people that I gave money to in 2018, but that isn’t as important as it could otherwise be.

The most important person that I donated to was the campaign of Kayne West. His was the cause that I needed to get behind most. Do you know why? Because April Fools! That’s why. I would not give money to him or any other candidate running for president. If I can vote for them, then I don’t give them money.

There are different categories of people that I donated to and amounts that I give. But I did give to lots of people. Once the insurrectionist known as Trump insisted on sending me a letter with the fact that we got stimulus money from the first of the three stimulus accounts, I felt that there would be a good way to get back at him. There were eleven people I gave money to as a result of this. I donated to the squad which then consisted of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib. I also donated to the people who wound up being the House impeachment managers of the first Trump impeachment was Adam Schiff, Jerry Nadler, Zoe Lofgren, Hakeem Jeffries, Val Demings, Jason Crow, and Sylvia Garcia.

This may not be the only time that I donate to House races. Know that a lot can change with what might happen in the future. But I had bigger fish to fry and I knew that governors were fair game due to the insurrectionist passing the buck to them regarding handling the pandemic by making the governors take care of it. If I felt that a Democrat was handling it good, then I would give them money so that they could stay in office. But some weren’t covered. Since Montana’s governor, Steve Bullock, was term limited, I felt that there was no reason to invest in this race. I also didn’t invest in Utah’s race either since their governor at the time was Gary Herbert who was retiring. Also, there were three Republican governors that I felt were doing a good job with handling the pandemic and had no other issues that I didn’t donate money against Phil Scott of Vermont, Chris Sununu of New Hampshire, or Eric Holcomb of Indiana.

The Democratic governors that I wanted to stay in office were John Carney of Delaware, Roy Cooper of North Carolina, and Jay Inslee of Washington. Thus, I gave them all money. As for the Republican governors that I wanted out of office, they were Mike Parson of Missouri, Jim Justice of West Virginia, and Doug Burgum of North Dakota. Thus, I donated to all of their Democratic opponents of Nicole Galloway, Ben Salango, and Shelley Lenz respectively.

Then came the senate races. I gave a lot more money to a lot more people for various reasons, the most notable one being the death of Ruth Bader Ginsberg. I’m not going to say who all I donated to, but I will say who I donated against. The Democrats that I donated to were Gary Peters and Tina Smith. The Republicans that I donated against were Dan Sullivan, Cory Gardner, David Perdue, Kelly Loeffler, Jim Risch, Joni Ernst, Mitch McConnell, Steve Daines, Thom Tillis, Jim Inhofe, Lindsey Graham, Mike Rounds, John Cornyn, and Shelley Moore Capito. I would have donated against more, but that didn’t happen for various reasons.

Last came the attorney general races. I donated to Richard Finneran of Missouri, Josh Stein of North Carolina, Ellen Rosenblum of Oregon, Greg Skordas of Utah, T.J. Donovan of Vermont, Bob Ferguson of Washington, and Sam Petsonk of West Virginia.

There’s nothing else to talk about in this post since I’ve covered all that I think is relevant and important that I can remember. I have no idea if I’ll do something like this again in the future, but might if only to tell you who I wanted to win and why I gave them money. I would only write a post like this after the elections have happened since then the donations would have already been done in the future.

Politics: 2020 South Carolina Senate Race Results

There’s not much that one can say about this election that came down to Republican incumbent Lindsey Graham versus Democrat Jaime Harrison. I have no idea what Jaime might have done wrong or if he was doomed to lose to such a horrible candidate.

The Supreme Court became a central issue when Lindsey sadly but not at all surprisingly turned against his own rules saying that he would support confirming someone this close to an election despite repeated claims earlier that he wouldn’t. I have a name for this group of senators called the injustice senators. I’ll get to the complete list and what I mean later in a future post and one of the YouTube videos that I plan to do.

Keeping up with the fundraising with Act Blue and the donation records, Jaime was able to raise a lot of money that might have been all for naught. He got a high record, but this was not able to help him overcome the strange support that Lindsey has. Lindsey even begged for money on Fox (or Faux) News and went so far as wanting Act Blue investigated.

After winning reelection, Lindsey seems to have wanted to do a potential illegal activity that should not be forgotten in the long run. It would foreshadow the same sort of thing that Trump would do himself. Lindsey called the Georgia Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, and asked to disqualify all mail-in ballots in counties with more signature errors according to Wikipedia. This could mean throwing out legally cast ballots. This could be part of a criminal investigation and could come back to haunt him.

Jamie is now head of the Democratic National Chair so things aren’t too bad regarding his role. Lindsey Graham continues to be a US senator for now and I’m already counting down the days until his reelection. It sucks that we have Lindsey in office for even longer.

Politics: 2020 Minnesota Senate Race Results

There’s not much to say about this race. Minnesota has been largely blue for quite some time now. I have no idea why Trump thought that he could win here. Reagan couldn’t even win in Minnesota and Reagan could literally win every other state.

The Democratic incumbent was Tina Smith, who was first appointed to the office and then won election in her own right to a special election in 2018. A mere two years later, she found herself being challenged again for the seat, this time by Republican Jason Lewis. She won reelection with a big show from third party candidates that ultimately didn’t affect her chances of winning the election. Thus, she gets to stay around as senator for a while.

Politics: 2020 Michigan Senate Race Results

Well, there isn’t much for me to write about and I have to get something written for today. I need to give myself more time to write blogs, but with a full time job and various other things to do, I should just give up all of my blogs. I don’t that I ever will barring something unusual. I just hope that I don’t burn through too many of these easier posts.

Anyways, in 2020, the incumbent Michigan senator who was up for reelection that year was the Democrat Gary Peters. He was worried about losing in emails, but so is everyone, you’d think. I plan to do a YouTube video on annoying campaign emails. I’m at least 1,000 behind with new emails on that account right now with posts going back all the way to February.

The challenger was the Republican John James. There isn’t much else to say about him. Some thought that there was no way that the Democrats could win control of the senate without this seat and it turns out that they were right. With all of the focus on being getting Republican’ts out of office, one would have to make sure that certain incumbents could stay in office. This would mean worse things if we lost more than just Doug Jones. 

Thankfully, we didn’t have much to worry about and Gary Peters won a hard fought reelection that was pretty close in the end. John sadly lied and claim that cheating cost him the win, but like the allegation of the lost soap, it is baseless. Gary won reelection and we are lucky that he gets to continue on as senator.

Politics: 2020 West Virginia Governor Race Results

Well, there was only one governor race in 2020 that I did a special post on that I haven’t done the results of just yet. I still plan to do a post on the elections for governor then in their entirety. I had talked about the West Virginia governor race back in 2020.

It was interesting since a former Democrat, Jim Justice, was now a Republican, making the switch early into his term. If elected as a Republican, he would make history by getting elected as a Republican governor of this state. Despite the fact that West Virginia is considered a red state, they normally don’t have Republican governors. People like me and various others would want to support the Democrat in the race, Ben Salango. Still, Jim handily won both the primary and the election.

While I didn’t want to admit it, part of the reason that I might target a lot of governors come 2022 would be over their handling of the coronavirus, and while a donation against them seem like a failing grade, the truth is, Jim has handled coronavirus quite while. Things have been much better in his state than a lot of others. Either he has done something right or he hasn’t horribly screwed things up there. Regardless of what happened, I just know that he did well there and actually did better than other Republican governors who also did win reelection in 2022.

It might not have been the election results that I would have wanted, but we seem to be fine for now with Jim still in charge of West Virginia. Perhaps he can be a voice of reason within his party that is sadly often absent from where it belongs.

Politics: 2020 US House of Representatives Results

Well, I will be doing some posts on the results of the House election results from last year that will talk more about their role in the storming of the capitol, but for now, I will focus loosely on just the results from the election in question and also talk some more about other parts of this world with a grand post for later that will hopefully come at some point. Let’s go with the results at first, their disappointing meaning, and how this country is worse. Yet despite this, we could have had things wind up even more badly than this.

Ultimately, while 3 seats flipped from Republican to Democratic, the one Libertarian seat went back to a Republican where it used to be, and there was a net gain of 14 seats for Republicans. Thankfully, it was not enough for them to reclaim majority, but it was enough to prevent a blue wave, despite what you might have heard elsewhere about it.

What’s bad is that some of the people who just won reelection wanted to support the frivolous post election lawsuit of Texas versus Pennsylvania. The fact that the lawsuit had zero chance of succeeding means nothing as it will show you the lengths that Republicans will go to in order to prevent people from winning. Plus, they can’t change the rules of an election only after it had happened in the end.

I’ll have to talk more about the sedition caucus as they have been come to be known by some of us in another post. But many people did want Trump to win in many ways that just weren’t as good or even legal as they could be.

Of course, then we don’t know of how much things will change now that one of the longest and most influential Congressmen is out of office with people trying to claim that they care about the late John Lewis, but not going about this the right way.

It is good that after the insurrection of the storming of the capitol, that enough Republicans stuck to their guns and didn’t vote to overturn the election results, but everyone that did should have known better. Some only did this due to worrying about what would happen if they didn’t.

Plus, it seemed like one of them wanted to get people killed or just didn’t think that they were doing much danger by what they felt was just repeating what the news had said. But there is a reason that people want to get rid of a few of the new members and it isn’t cancel culture. It is the fact that they could be breaking the law.

During a pandemic, one should just care for others by doing something as simple as wearing a mask on their face. But Republicans don’t care that they are getting infected at a high rate. They still want to spread the virus to others. Now, for the first time ever, I know of Democrats who got covid19. And it was entirely Republicans fault.

The results of the House races last year were disappointing, but not nearly as bad as it could have been. If we didn’t have a trifecta, then we wouldn’t have coronavirus relief now. I can only hope that things go better after redistricting, but I have no idea what could happen there just yet at the moment.
